I’m the type of person who changes my mind pretty frequently. And, when it comes to home decor, I like to see something in my space before I commit to it. Crate & Barrel is one of my favorite places to shop for furniture and decor. We’ve purchased a number of pieces from them over the years and, fortunately, have not had to return anything big or bulky. However, that fact hasn’t stopped me from educating myself on the Crate & Barrel return policy. Curious what can and cannot be returned to Crate & Barrel? Get the details on their return policy below!

The information was accurate at the time this post was written. Please view the full Crate & Barrel return policy at the button below for current and updated information.

What to Know About the Crate & Barrel Return Policy

Non-Furniture Items Can Be Returned or Exchanged

Luckily, Crate & Barrel accepts returns on most non-furniture items for a full refund, store credit, or exchange. However, it’s important to know that non-furniture items must be returned in good condition. It’s further clarified that items cannot be used or washed. In order to process your return or exchange on non-furniture items, returns must be made within 90 days of purchasing the item and with valid proof of purchase.

Stock Furniture, Rugs, & Rug Pads Can Be Returned

Stocked furniture, rugs, and rug pads from Crate & Barrel have a somewhat different return policy. In short, you will need to make your decision in a pretty small timeframe. Nothing like a little pressure when whipping a space together, right? In order to return these items, Crate & Barrel must be notified within 7 days of you receiving them and returned items must be sent back within 30 days of purchase. Additionally, a valid proof of purchase must be provided with the return.

Special Order, Customized, & Personalized Items Cannot Be Returned

Although Crate & Barrel’s return policy is fairly generous, it does draw the line at special items, customized items, and personalized products. This all makes sense since they can’t turn around and re-sell these items as easily. For specialized orders placed at Crate & Barrel, a 50% down payment is generally required. After the order is placed, you have 48 hours to make changes or cancellations. After that, your 50% deposit becomes non-refundable. Ouch! You, therefore, will likely want to think pretty hard before placing a special order. And don’t forget to measure twice!

Other Items That Cannot Be Returned or Refunded

It’s important to know of a few other items for which Crate& Barrel does not accept returns or provide refunds. According to their website any items that is sold as “final sale” (including floor modes), cut yardage, or live botanicals cannot be returned. Additionally any shipping and delivery fees incurred on non-refundable. They also mention that any items that are made to order including custom furniture, custom rugs, and items that have been purchased as final sale cannot be returned, exchanged or repaired.
