Do you ever have those moments during the holidays when a certain memory just hits you? For me it’s the smell of a candle, the way the evening light hits, or even a catchy tinseled-tune. This time of year so many of those sensations seem to bring me back to Thanksgiving Day. It was always the biggest annual gathering in my house. Some years we’d have close to three dozen people join us for the big turkey day! The biggest indicator of the year’s guest list was always the number of extra place settings my grandma would need to buy that year. The result? Lots of holiday dishes.

While the size of our gathering has dwindled, my family still has all of that dazzling dinnerware. With its traditional pattern and my modern-leaning style, I wanted to find a way to modernize the set for this year’s holiday hosting. Of course, I wasn’t exactly sure how I would do it. I did, however, know that I needed to start in a place with a wide selection of products and styles that I could browse and brainstorm. Being a visual person, I don’t always have an idea of what I want until I see it!

Taking My Family’s Holiday Dinnerware Modern With Wayfair

My first stop was Wayfair.com. I’ve shopped with them many times before and know that their selection of tablescape and entertaining essentials is crazy big. I was confident they would have what I needed to pull this new look together. Honestly, they had all of that and more for serving our friends and family this holiday season. From the napkins to the placemats, and everything in between, I was easily able to find what I was looking for to complete the look. Amazingly enough, they even carry my family’s exact holiday dinnerware (yeah, from the 90’s!)! Check it out below and get your own table guest-list ready this year with Wayfair’s awesome list of price-happy entertaining essentials!

Since the dinnerware pattern is quite intricate, I knew that I would need simple but bold accent pieces to clean it up and tone it down. I chose these salad plates to give a bright pop while also pulling in the red from the holly berries on the dinner plate. The green striped napkins add another modern touch and is still mindful of the color theme. I’m totally obsessed with these brass “Merry” napkin rings and knew that I would find a way to incorporate them into my new look. I love how they pull in the gold rim of the dinner plate for a cohesive and finished look. Lastly, everything sits on top of this round green placemat which I felt gave the entire look a kind of cool and modern boho feel! Check out the finished product and shop the exact products below!
