10 Essentials For Staying Sane In Self Isolation
Wake Up At Your Normal Time
Maintaining a daily routine is always important, but it might be even more important during self-isolation. Start by getting up at your normal time and keeping with your morning rituals. Not sold on it just yet? Check out these other reasons why waking up early could benefit your overall health.
Make Your Bed
I grew up with a mother that said people who make their bed every morning are more productive people. Just because you aren’t going anywhere doesn’t mean it’s okay to slack on the chores! Make that bed and set yourself up for a successful day! P.S. It turns out my mom may have been right all this time!
Get Dressed
Get dressed and ready. Everyday. Who knows when your boss is going to want to call a quick Zoom conference and see that bright and beautiful face of yours! You’ll feel better about yourself and be ready to tackle the day.
Stay Active
It doesn’t matter if you have a treadmill in your house or if you simply run laps around your sofa. Try and get at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day. Stuck for ideas? Try Yoga With Adriene on YouTube.
FaceTime Friends & Family
We are so lucky to live in a time where most people have great access to video calls. Call, text, or video chat at least one friend or family member every day. It’s important to keep those social connections alive and you’re sure to brighten their day!
Get Outside
While this might not be possible for everyone if you have access to the outdoors and can safely distance yourself from others, DO IT! Even if you just crane your neck out a window and take a breath of fresh air, your body will feel refreshed.
Read A Book
Keep that mind engaged and read something. If you can, go for a physical book or magazine and give those eyes a rest from all of these screens. Looking for some inspiration? Check out my friend’s new book on pattern, Bloom Wild. Looking for a novel? I just joined a virtual book club with some friends and we are reading Little Fires Everywhere.
Limit Your Screen Time
Snowballing on that last point…make sure to get off of your phone, computer or television. Those eyes need a resting baby!
Engage Your Creativity
Those supplies you purchased last year for that project you never started? Now is the time to whip them out! Stay creative and work on overdue projects, organization, rearranging or even journaling.
Stay Productive
At the end of the day, we have to stay productive! Breathe often, create endlessly and focus on positivity. Keeping busy and finding purpose in the day-to-day of our self-isolation will be the key to coming out refreshed and ready when all of this passes!
